Quick intro…
We’ve just met, so here’s a short story to reassure you two key things…that we all feel lost in love at times, and to show that change is always possible.
In 2016, after our son turned one, I felt adrift. Parenthood hit Nikki and me hard and an unfortunate cocktail of postnatal depression and exhaustion, led us to fall into a loop of miscommunication and distance.
It was a really tough time – I felt I was failing as a husband and as the dad I wanted to be. My instinctive reaction was to shut down emotionally and my withdrawal spiked anxiety, the trust thinned and we both wondered about our future.
It was December of 2016 that I found coaching and studied in-depth relationship dynamics and the neuroscience of behaviour change. Seeing the story in my head transformed how I showed up.
By 2017, we felt realigned and like a team again. Looking back we could have arrived there sooner, but I’m grateful we invested the time in figuring things out – getting to the root cause, not just the symptoms. Nine years on, with two children, I’m so proud to say that we enjoy our relationship every day. We still have ups and downs, but there’s security: we’re in it together.
So…hopefully that gives you a little insight into my world…
And helps you to appreciate that we can all make positive changes if given a safe space to do so.
