Couples Counselling in Cheadle That Gives You Tools, Not Just Talk
My consulting room is a short drive from Cheadle, so we can sit down properly and do the real work face to face. If travelling is difficult, the same programme runs online over Zoom. Either way you get structure, practical tools and a clear plan rather than an open ended chat.

No blame, just an honest read
The point most Cheadle couples get in touch
Very few couples arrive because of one dramatic event. Most arrive worn down by a long accumulation of small ones. See whether any of these sound like your household.
The same argument, on a loop. A different week and a different trigger, but underneath it is the row you have had a hundred times before. One of you pushes for resolution, the other closes down, and nothing is ever actually settled.
Days of silence afterwards. Following a flare up you can go a day or longer barely speaking. You stay civil in front of the children and around other people, and the distance quietly hardens.
The closeness has slipped away. Affection, intimacy and physical connection have gradually gone, and the relationship has become a list of tasks you administer together rather than a partnership you enjoy.
You have drifted into parallel lives. Work, children, the house, the logistics. Excellent teammates on paper, near strangers in practice, and neither of you can pinpoint when that happened.
You are trying to recover after an affair. Trust has taken a serious hit and you are both standing in the aftermath, genuinely unsure whether this can be rebuilt or whether it is finished.
If two or three of those landed, nothing is broken in either of you. You are two capable people caught in a pattern, often the one described in often the one described in that neither of you can see clearly from the inside, and patterns respond very well to the right structure.
A private room, a short drive away
A quiet room in Bramhall, minutes from Cheadle
I see couples in person at Flynn House on Woodford Road in Bramhall, which is roughly ten to fifteen minutes from Cheadle village and closer still from Cheadle Hulme. It is a private, quiet room where the only thing on the agenda for that hour is the two of you.
If travel is difficult, We can hold the session walking outdoors rather than sitting across a table, and Bramhall Park is on the doorstep. Walking side by side instead of face to face makes difficult conversations noticeably easier for a lot of people, particularly at the start.
Being genuinely local matters, because getting to a session should not become a project in its own right. Couples travel in to see me from Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Gatley, Heald Green, Bramhall, Heald Green, Hazel Grove and right across south Manchester and Cheshire. If you are coming from the other direction, I also run couples therapy in Stockport.
A good proportion of the couples I see have already tried something else. A handful of sessions at Relate, a private counsellor, or a stretch of individual therapy that helped one of you and left the relationship largely where it was. If that is you, this will feel different, and I will explain exactly how on the first call. You can also read more about my background and approach across Rebooting Relationships.

Structured, with a beginning and an end
Inside a session, step by step
This is not an open ended weekly conversation that quietly rolls on for a year. Every session has a purpose and a shape.
We usually begin by reviewing the week and anything that has come up since we last met. From there we work on the specific pattern that keeps catching the two of you out, and you leave with something concrete to practise before the next session. It is deliberately practical, and much of it builds on transactional analysis.
Everything we build together lives in a shared drive of resources, with the exercises, notes and short videos in one place, so nothing depends on either of you remembering what was said in the room three weeks ago.
All of it sits inside a defined programme, normally six to twelve weeks, with a clear beginning, middle and end. My intention is to hand you the tools and step back, not to keep you coming indefinitely. Much of it builds on transactional analysis.
What people actually want back
What you actually get back
Almost nobody books in asking for frameworks or models. They book in because they want to feel a particular way again. These are the four outcomes that come up most.
Conversations that stop escalating
A shared language and a small set of reliable tools, so that a difficult conversation stays a conversation instead of tipping into the same argument you have had for years.
Closeness and intimacy returning
Affection, warmth and the physical side of the relationship finding their way back, so that being together feels like more than a shared calendar and a mortgage.
Trust rebuilt properly
For couples recovering from an affair or another serious breach, a steady and honest process for working out whether the foundation can be rebuilt, and how.
Being on the same side again
Pulling in the same direction rather than against each other, with a shared and realistic sense of where the next few years are heading for the two of you.
Services for couples and individuals
Whether you call it counselling, therapy or coaching
People arrive using very different words for the same thing. Some search for couples counselling, some for couples therapy, some for marriage guidance. The label matters far less than the fit, so here is plainly what I offer and who each part is for.

If your partner is not ready yet, you can still start. Changing your half of the pattern genuinely moves it. individual sessions
Clear from the outset
The programme, and what it costs
It begins with a free discovery call. We talk through what has been happening, what you each want from this, and whether I am genuinely the right person to help. There is no pitch and no obligation at the end of it.
Most couples counsellors around Cheadle and Stockport charge per session, often somewhere between £60 and £150 an hour, which adds up quietly across a year. The core programme is £1,000 for a bespoke 6 to 12 week package, with an optional fortnightly payment plan. That one figure covers live coaching sessions tailored to your situation, full access to the resource library of exercises, videos and worksheets, and unlimited messaging support between sessions. No per-hour surprises and no open ended commitment.
From conflict to connection
Have a look at how I work first
Choosing someone to sit with while you discuss the most difficult thing in your life is a considerable ask over a website. Have a watch of this short message about how the work actually feels in practice. Couples who had already tried Relate or private counselling often point to this as the difference.

Couples counselling in Cheadle: your questions answered
If yours is not here, the discovery call is the right place to ask.
Do you see couples in person in Cheadle, or online?
Both. I see couples face to face at my Bramhall practice, a short drive from Cheadle, and I also work online over Zoom. Some couples prefer the focus of the room, others find it far easier to fit sessions around childcare and shift patterns from home. Plenty do a mixture of the two.
Where exactly is your practice, and how far is it from Cheadle?
In person sessions are at Flynn House, Woodford Road, Bramhall, Stockport SK7 1PA. That is around ten to fifteen minutes by car from Cheadle village and closer from Cheadle Hulme. Couples also travel in from Gatley, Heald Green, Hazel Grove, Marple and across Cheshire.
Is there parking at the practice?
Yes, there is parking on site, so arriving and getting settled is straightforward. That matters more than it sounds when you are already a little apprehensive about the session itself.
How much does couples counselling cost?
The core programme is £1,000 for a bespoke 6 to 12 week package. That includes live coaching sessions tailored to your situation, full access to the resource library, which is a Google Drive of exercises, videos and worksheets, and unlimited messaging support between sessions. There is an optional fortnightly payment plan. For comparison, most counsellors around Cheadle charge per session, usually between £60 and £150 an hour, which adds up quietly across a year.
Does couples therapy actually work?
It works when at least one of you is genuinely willing to engage with it, and considerably faster when both of you are. I would be wary of anyone who promises you an outcome. What I can tell you is that the couples who struggle are almost always the ones where nobody wanted to be in the room, rather than the ones carrying the most damage.
What if my partner will not come?
You can still start on your own, and it is more effective than most people expect. A relationship pattern needs both people to keep it running, so when one person genuinely changes how they show up, the pattern has to move. In my experience a reluctant partner often joins a few weeks in, once they can see something real changing.
